Game programming forum
I think it would be a good idea for a game programming forum to be put on PFO. That way everyone that is into game programming can post source or talk about game programming instead of just a regular programming forum. What do you guys think. I personally say its a good idea becouse I am into game programming.

I prefer the language specific layout rather than topical layout. Comparing code is nice, but more relevant if it's from languages that are the same (or very similar). There's also the Software Design forum for talking about more general ideas and whatnot...

Yeah but there could be a sub-forum in like say C++ forum that is about Game programming. right?

making a subforum per language would be too much. Still, maybe put a software Design topic, and Game Programming under that. It would be neat to have an area to group the design based threads.. ie software design, algorithms, (database design?), game programming, as they are more abstract than the actual language. Right now Software Design is in the same section as c++, c#, visual basic etc, which seems like it is not really the right spot.

There's very little posted about games that's actually meaningful. Most of it is either, "How can I make a game?" or "Help me make a game, I'll pay you zilch, but we'll all get rich, believe me".

It does seen like a good thought but Dawei is right also. It's really up to the Admin to make the decision. I would like it but it doesn't bother me without it.

There's a current project forum, for all types of projects.

Yeah, I don't think we need a game programming forum. Plus I don't think we have too many game experts anyways (meaning anyone intO OpenGL, DX etc).
Personally, if I really get into 2d, 3d or any large/high end game programming, I would probably go to a game-specific forum. No offense to PFO, but face it, how many decent game related posts do we get? |
