viewing php output
I'm wondering if anyone uses the free server "arbornet" to test their php code? My teacher showed it to us, and now everyone is using it.
The only thing you need to download, if you haven't already is "putty", then sign to "m-net.arbornet.org" that's all. You do not need to download anything else. You have to know a little unix (pwd, ls, and emacs are some of the commands) but it's all pretty simple. Tell me what you think of this server if you have time to Check It Out

Meh, I like my own setup. I use Abyss X1 web server for development. Check it out: www.aprelium.com. All you have to do is download PHP and install it. The abyss website has docson how to set it up with PHP. It's really easy. I would rather use that.

Likewise I have everything I require for development on my computer so I don't have to move any files to test anything.

do you mean to see the out put of the php code you made? can't you just save it to where ever you got your web stuff running and view the page through a browser?

well if your making php, does not that imply you already have a server running php? i dont see the point in using an alternate system.

you can write php anywhere.. anything that has a text editor. That doesn't mean you are writing it ON a webserver. I can see how that would be useful if you write your stuff from public computers or a number of different spots, but if you do any extensive coding, just install apache and php on your own machine and test it yourself.
