Post Filing compared to using a DB software

Hi all,
I ve been developing applications in VB for long time, I ve been depending on creating my own files using the available VB commands and manage the contents of these files in order to be abale to save and retreive the data.
Although, I'm completly satisfied with the results and the technique , I c itsn't commonly used by developers I know, who usually use MS Access or whatever . So I like to know ur opinions and what do u think about that and why u think so.?
Thanks

Most professionals worth their salt will use a database server application, such as MS SQL Server or MySQL. There are many benefits: the editing functions are already written for you, more than one user can access the stuff at a time without the data becoming corrupt... there's loads more. Check 'em out.

I used to use textfiles alot. it worked out, but got harder and harder, as there was more and more data. One time I had to write a program using xml to store data. it was a pain. I only recently learned mysql and realised how much easier life would have been had I known it :p Give it a shot. It helps. Its just intimidating. I found it really easy.
