Python or C++
What is your guys opinion on what language is better to learn first C++ or Python. I started learning C++ but I'm hearing alot about python.

I stopped reading the Python handbook when it said you had to use the indention it wanted. So I say C++.

I was with you, a_thing, and said so in a post on the forum here. I detest whitespace being required as a syntactical ingredient (like telling me I have to wear a helmet). Sure, it's the thing to do. I do it voluntarily; I'm recalcitrant enough not to want to be forced. That said, I decided to proceed with it anyway. I'm even striving to approach it "Pythonically", and not as a translated substitute for another language. Quite frankly, it's great. The high level of abstraction is obviously not suited to resource-starved applications, but then a large majority of applications don't fall into that category.

Too be honest MSK420, go with C++. You will learn a lot and have fun learning it. Majority of the programs were built with C or C++. And seeing that you use XP, I suggest you use Linux (Fedora Core or Ubuntu are great). It will actually help you out, I did with me learning Perl.

I looked into it but I prefer Ubuntu. It only requires one cd to install the whole thing. Ubuntu and SUSE 10.0 (not 10.1...:-( ) were the only distros where my wireless PCI network card work on w/o configuration. Ubuntu still is great overall. Very easy to use!

Do things that work on windows work on Linux though? I mean like Dev-C++? and what about internet connections, I have AOL dial up will that work with Linux?

AOL should work. I don't like Dev-C++. I use Anjuta IDE. It's great with C and C++. Anyways, trust me you wont need an IDE after a few weeks with C++. You will be compiling C++ programs via the terminal.

Ok but what if I do install Mandrake Linux, it will work fine right? good for C++ programming and all?
