If I put the contents of the table cell into a frame, would that allow me to more easily use a scrollbar?

The frame can't do anything for you a div can't do, but get you in trouble. The problem you have is that no one making a rationally-behaving browser thought wrapping or breaking a series of characters lebenty-zillion characters long was worth the effort. I tend to agree with them. Very few friggin' words in any language will match your series of Ws. The only decent advice you're getting in this thread is from Agent 47. Hang in there and wait for his response.

Perhaps make a <span> or <acronym> with the title of your long string?

Try putting the text containing the long word inside a <div> (such as <div width="Xpx" style="word-wrap: break-word">); this can be placed inside the table cell.
In my experience I have found <div>s to be the only element that will hold a specified width across browsers. |

The reason I have words that long is this is going to be a site where people can put in any message they want. So of course, some guy thinking he's funny will just put in a message of all or almost all Ws.

Hmm, no. The code tags do it, though. They're <pre>, though, and I don't want the text to look like that. |
