.NET, Vista and runtime.
Didn't know quite what to call this thread but my question is simple. When Vista comes out, there is a lot of specualtion going around about what is, and what isn't supported. I think it's obvious that .NET languages are going to be there primary ones being used, but my question is, is everything we need contained in the .NET framework. In VB6 we needed vb6 runtime files, so we couldn't really create standaone exe's, but when Vista comes out, if we create a program with say C#, can we just release the exe, and then it works on any computer with Vista? or are we still essentially going to need setup files? Thanks.

Currently, a C# executable works on any computer with .NET framework installed. When vista comes out, it will have WinFX integrated in it so your program will work on any computer with Vista.
As for support, given Microsoft's history of backward compatibility, I believe they'll keep most of .NET's functionnality. |

Yeah, that's what I figured. That's going to wreak havoc through viruses though. But then again I don't know what security measures they are going to integrate.

All of Vista's new features as far as programming and development go are based on top of the .NET Framework.
The whole framework will work just as it does on XP, and the change of needing auxillary files is nill, you will of course need the .NET framework installed.

Yeah well I'm sure Vista will come with the framework pre-installed. It kind of seems like java, except completely windows based, and probably more powerful.
