how do i use the python program to make what i want? i cant figure out how to use the program.

Surely that depends on what you want to make?

On Windows, the menu item marked "IDLE (Python GUI)" will give you an interactive interpretor and editor that should give you a place to start from.

Sounds like you are just starting with Python. I can see that it can be very frustrating, as you run python.exe and then try to make it do something. Here is a site that is for the very beginner of Python:

What operating system are you using?

well i installed teh python 2.4.3 and the drpython and none of them work. they come up with a dos box and that isd it. i dont know what to do after that.

no i am new to programming. when i open python.exe it comes up with a dos box. what do i do after that? and i am on windows xp

The DrPython editor needs wxPython to run. I would use the simpler IDLE editor to start out, as mentioned in the site I gave you (just found it again).

The ugly looking black thing that comes up in windows is Interactive Python with the equally ugly >>> prompt, not good for writing any programs, but you can test some simple stuff.

So at the >>> prompt type 2 + 2 and press enter.
