DynDNS for .net/.com?

I need a domain name that can link to my dynamic in the same way as www.dyndns.com does.

I have a program on my computer that updates my IP to my free domain name every time it changes. However, I wish to switch to a .com or .net extention. I've contacted the customer support for dyndns.com, and they say their minimum package for this is $30/month (I'll need to buy a custom dns).

Anyone know of a simple system I can set up to automatically update my IP everytime it changes, and where to buy the domain name? I've tried GoDaddy, but everytime I update my IP it takes 30 minutes to register the chage (which is friggin' stupid).

Thanks for any help.

Check out No-IP. Says $15/year, which is a bit better.

A bit better?

(30*12)/15 = 24

That's 24 times better!!

Have you had experience with No-IP before? Does it include a program to immediately keep your IP updated?

It does, though I don't use it as I have a static IP. A mate of mine says it's good though.

By the way, where the hell did you pull that calculation out from? It's $30 and $15 per year, not per month.

That doesn't work with top-level domains, only with No-IP subdomains. I believe Sane has a DynDNS subdomain, which is basically the same thing.

Ooble, in my first post I said DynDNS charges $30/month.

I'll try no-ip sometime over this week. Hopefully their customer service will be good enough to help me out if I have any troubles.

Best of all, you will own your own domain name and can renew the domain name registration and dns service all at the same place.

Control over your DNS records and your Dynamic IP is just the beginning. Web redirects to sidestep port 80 blocking and TXT records to support SPF or publish a public key. Support by popular router manufacturers makes integration easy. Plus Managed DNS is an annual $32.95/year.

Registration Only
With this package you will be able to register your domain name and use No-IP's basic limited dns service. If you need dynamic dns or the ability to add more than one host, select the Plus Package now for the discounted package price. Upgrading to Plus later will cost the full retail amount. Registration for most domains is only $15.00/year.

It seems that I want the "plus package", which costs $30/year.

Sane - I've been looking into writing a simple script to do the same thing on one of my servers. Basically it just takes a request from your local computer when your IP changes to update the A record in the dns file to your current IP. Seems simple right? Am I missing anything?
