I can understand bumping when a forum is so active as to where a day or even a few hours leads to your post being on the 2nd page... but when its 5th from the top, not so much...

Understanding it doesn't make it either necessary or desirable. People who are both willing and able to answer questions will generally look further than the first screen. Not all of us are novices seeking easy gratification. I stopped logging in to another programming forum, with more traffic than this one, a couple of years back because about 15% of all new posts were "bumps". If you expect patience from people who help you, you also need to demonstrate it.
