hey all
hi,
I'm just someone random guy on the internet that's looking for a bit help. I've read some basic web scripting languages (javascript, php, perl) but never really done much. I just like to read, but don't like to do the work ![]() I want to create a program or script that would navigate the web and read and download pages and images. It's not the whole internet like a search bot or anything, just a few small site like photo gallaries and stuff. I just don't know what language to use. I tried with javascript but failed, obviously. It can't do anything and has a stupid same origin policy. So i just thought of comming on a programming forum that has all the languages to ask which ones to use, since asking on a specific programming language forum would of course get that same one as the answer. Just did a search of "programming forum" on Google and find here. You guys are #1. Hope you all will like me and have a fun time with me here. Thanks, (wow, this is so long, at first i thought i can possibly type an intro post longer than "hi, i am xudzh" ) |

Hi xudzh
![]() welcome to the forums. The program you want to write would probably be easiest to write in PHP or VB. Depending on what you want how and how complicated you want it to get, you could also choose to write it in almost any other langauge, but too me, if it's just downloading images and a few pages, it sounds like all you need is a quick and easy solution. to tell you the truth, i actually just wrote a small program similar to what you are talking about, except i read rss feeds, and downloaded images. Anyways, good luck, and once again, welcome to the forums! |

welcome.
I'd suggest looking at Perl for what you want. The Agent class it has basically simulates a browser and can do what you want. Of course there are ways to implement it in most languages, so it is also your preference.
