The correct wording would be, "I'm learning C++."

It would be next to impossible to teach yourself a programming language. It would be like one big long guessing game, looking for correct syntax and all that.

C++ is a nice language, enjoy.

Hey I like it. Pendanticland teaches me new things. For a non-native English person anyway.

welcome.

1- I feel various mean things to say about the "weed is stupid page" related to putting completely opinion and biased assertions that have no support out there as fact.

2- jayme.. the language is based on use, and "teaching yourself" works fine. If you do not have a "teacher", then you are the teacher and therefore teach yourself. If you do so with the aid of books, tutorials etc, you are still teaching yourself. I don't think any school teacher has ever thought they weren't a teacher because they gave the students textbooks.

People often mistake "teaching" for "learning" when dealing with programming. If students were able to teach themselves math, they wouldn't be in the class. In my school, I'm given a book and am told to do my work, without help of a teacher, unless I have a question. Because I'm given a book doesn't mean I tought myself math, it means I learned math, because the book tought me math. I would have to say the only way to teach yourself something would be trial and error. That would be a long journey for a programmer to teach himself/herself a language.

I guess saying you tought yourself something by reading another persons tutorial/book, could be the same as claiming there liturature as your own, in a way.

The English language is constantly changing. We have to keep up with it. I'm generally of the opinion that if you can understand the meaning without having to think, it's fine.

I like it traditional, I hate it when every 5 years, grammar changes. I always stick to the old one spelling, and they'll have to make them both correct, because I'm not changing it.
