i think what we need to do is come up with a browser irc client. i know there are some available already. the name reason i would want irc client is cause we have an irc channel on irc.freenode.net at channel #programmingforums
so either we get a cgi irc client or a java one. unless someone can come up with a better one

I would advise in getting a Java based client, since unlike a CGI based client you could divert the extra traffic away from the website itself. For those who wish to use IRC in the meantime download a client from either:

http://www.xchat.org or
http://www.mirc.com

java might be good except for those people who are behind proxy servers. like when im at work i cant use a java client cause there is no way to tell it to go thru the proxy. but if anyone knows of an open source java client i get get installed that would be great or unless someone just wants to write one

Check out Hydra IRC if you're on Windows. It's not trial ware, and it doesn't have a ton of security holes. Unlike mIRC.

Well guys i have a java irc client installed on the channel. if you want to take alook at it and try it out (test to see if it works) you can. but it is just a blank page right now with the applet on it. i just installed it and havent had time to integrate it into the forum yet. i wont even have a link up for it until i have finished integrating it but you guys are welcome to test it out for me
