That is the user Gnome telling me to sign up on AIM. He's quite the guy, he's currently not responding to me right now... perhaps he's browsing this forum. Well, I'm just here because... well, I am thinking about pursuing a programming language. I'm still deciding between PHP, Python, and Visual Basic.

Anyway, give it up for your newest memeber.

Bonjour et accueillir

Python is said to be a good choice, I wouldn't reccomend Visual Basic, it tends to teach a lot of bad habits...IMHO I suggest C

Welcome!

I disagree with Benoit, I think you should go for a language that will teach you good programming habits. This could be C#, Java, Python or Ruby. I heard that in Python even spacing has to be done the right way, so that would teach you some right indenting etc, it's also an easy but powerful language.

hi there

nnxion I think Benoit meant that VB teaches bad habbits, did you mis-understand him thinking he meant Python?

I wouldn't reccommend VB either, Java, Python or PHP I think would be a good start.

No, I wouldn't recommend VB either. I would and did suggest Java or Python. And I don't recommend C as a first language.

P.S. Recommend is with one c.

I see, spelling was nevery my strong point, hence using computers, (normally) they check spelling for you, and when programming words are usually easier to spell.. for, while, if, etc :p also IDEs help.

Yeah C I don't think would be a good first language, you should get to know another language, say Java (or maybe Pascal) then try C after as I have done (Pascal and Java then C)

I have no experience with Pascal, but that isn't an object-oriented language. I suggest the OP to choose one that is. Almost anything will do, although C++ may be a little steep.
