MFC or WTL?

After finding that the 2005 express edition doesnt come with MFC or ATL, I took a quick look on google for alternatives. and came acrosse WTL. It sounds pretty good from what I've read but seems poorly documented, and not so widely used. So I can do either A) Go back to using visual studio 6 and stick with the MFC or possibly look into ATL, I have a couple of books that can help me with it.. or B) stick with the 2005 express edition and use something like WTL.

As being totally new to any of this exception from a slight dabble with MFC applications in VS6, I am really unsure on what would be best to do.

Any suggestions, opinions would be helpful and Appreciated

MFC will have to be supported for years because of the huge installed
base but as Jason says look at the size of the team. I don't anticipate
any new features to it. MFC is outdated and bloated. Its horrible for
COM components. It doesn't fit into the .NET world unless you are
developing un-managed C++ code and then there are better choices. But
the biggest reason, is its paradigm has largely gone away. In its day,
much of the paradigm was rich GUI clients. Today that paradigm is
virtually gone. For better or worse, the paradigm is a "thin" browser
client. MFC has nothing to offer in the world.
This isn't my opinion. I use win32api. Works ok for now.

You could always check out .NET, Microsoft's new-fangled approach to object-oriented development. It's a lot easier to use than MFC, and has more stuff too. I like it, anyway.

Not by default, but there is nothing stopping you from downloading the PSDK and installing it.
