I never said any such thing. Nor was it implied, as far as I can tell. I was addressing a piece of software, not its users. Afterall, VC++ 6.0 is only two major versions old, and as DaWai pointed out, predates the standard. I myself use Visual Studio 2005 (since my school lovingly gave it to me, and I had VC++ 2003 before that), and I'm not implying anything against Microsoft's recent software at all.

I used Borland for years before being forced to VC (5, then 6) by a client. As mentioned, VC 6.0 and earlier predated the standard. You can't measure compliance against something that doesn't exist. Another factor in those days (and even today, to a lesser extent) is that providers tended to enlarge upon their product with proprietary extensions in order to make the product more powerful, and more competetive. That's a harder path to justify if extensions are non-standard, so the incidence is less. VC subsequent to 6.0 (as in 2003 and later) is far more compliant than previously. It is not 100%. Very few compilers are, and particularly the more widely used compilers. All this can be a pain for the programmer, without automatically implying that the using programmer is schlocky. That's just a plainly ridiculous statement, and I didn't see anyone say that. One might be programming for a platform that has ONE lousy compiler available (many platforms might have none available). One uses it. In the final analysis, the language is one thing and the compiler is another. While the compiler, mainly, should be compliant and 'pure', when it comes to run-time libraries, which most compilers provide as a part of the package, implementation dependency is unavoidable.

Jesus lighten up guys, so it was a poor stab at humor in a humorless society. Forgive me for not being anal.

If your statement was an attempt at humor, it was misdirected. Humor has its place, but not when the subject is the appropriate tool or practice to use, or an implication that a tool is not appropriate. People take these posts as meaningful, which is why I have a post in the lounge enjoining responders to "Please Be Careful." Anal? I think I'll be a little different from my normal self and forego discussing that area of the anatomy for now.

Not to argue with you DaWei, but I think you just reinforced my opinion about humor. Since I've nothing to contribute, I will refrain from further discussion.

You know, I tried to refrain from further comments, but I can see your ego prevents you from doing so. So tell me, what do you get out of bullying every body? A feeling of superiority? I'm here to tell you, you keep rubbing people the wrong way and it's gonna come back to you. You are not better than me or anyone else. Your "contributions" don't entitle you to browbeat everybody else. Come down to earth.
