It looks pretty cool. As long as their hardware is good and stable, I see IMHO no reason why they shouldn't make it.

Reminds me of a PSP. I agree with Polyphemus_ though.

Instead of just saying you think they should stay with software development only, please explain why you think they should. I am all for it. If when it is released, it ends up being horrible, then I will make my decision of wether or not they should stick to software from then on. They have been successful in most(all?) of their products so far, might as well expand.
Nevermind king, I just saw your sig :p

I think they should stick to software, primarily because it is what they do best. Its kinda like a Super Walmart... they offer groceries, general merchandise, pharmacy, vision clinic, mechanic shop, barber shop, etc... expanding in too many areas, in my opinion.
For instance, take a pyschologist (MD) ... would you want him/her to expand their practice in surgery, neonatal care, insurace, etc? If they did, would you be willing to go under their blade?

Microsoft isn't a single person. It's many people, all knowing what they do and get paid well for it. They have different teams working on different things. They won't have programmers creating the hardware, they will have technicians.
Software is what they do best right now. They have never really made any type of hardware, other than mouse(s)(mice?) and keyboards. Everyone deserves a chance, same goes for this technologically advanced wal-mart.

Yeah, I saw it on the news last night, the starting price is $1000 and then after a year going down to $500. I personaly think its a good idea but I hope they are not trying to replace laptops. Its gonna be hard to program on there, with the keyboard looking like the Side Kicks style!
