If I’m being directed at, I also agree that HTML is not actual programming.

I think that HTML is not a programming language. But, I also think that it does help you get started. HTML was the first thing I learned about any kind of language on the computer. I learned HTML before I even knew what C++, Java or PHP was at all. In my opinion, learning HTML helped me be ready for other programming languages. I am not a master at any programming language yet, but I usually find things pretty easy. HTML was the first language of any kind that I mastered

Darkhack does have a lot great points! HTML is indeed a mark-up language! I wouldn't consider HTML a programming language. Javascript is the answer for web developer who want programming power integrated in the web pages.

I agree that its not a programming language, its just a way of displaying information to me.

There isn't any staitforward answer to that.it all concludes to what a programming language is.Thus given any exact definition of what a programming language is will make the answer trivial.
Personally i believe it is....
To me a programming language is any language described formaly that will "tell" the computer to do somethingWhy not mark up a page.
Any doubts????

A programming language instructs the computer in a process; a markup language defines the structure of information. HTML is a markup language.

This is most definitely not the case. I have programmed a computer using the 'language' (switch settings representing the logic levels that directed certain operations of the ALU) which it 'understood', but which had no formal definition beyond the implicit logic of the circuit design. Your statement that a definition is required is, of course, true. However, a rational definition adhered to by a large majority of knowledgeable people already exists. HTML is, by that definition, a markup language, and not a programming language. Again, any opinion might be tolerated as a 'right', but it certainly doesn't have to be treated as 'correct,' despite the wishes of the proponent.

Yeah! HTML is just a way to display text in a browser. CSS controls the styles of the text and when you wanna talk about programming, Javascript is most likely considered a programming language! HTML is just in another ball-game!

You keep stating the exact same thing as I said in the first sentence over and over again. However, nobody has yet argued against my specific reasons yet.

Give me some example on which would make you think HTML is programming.
