Installing Norton on Linux?
I am running Fedora Core 4, and would like to install Norton antivirus on it...so I downloaded a file:
ScanEngine-5.0.2.32-RedHat.zip I double clicked it and it opens up, and I dragged it to the desktop and now have: ScanEngine-5.0.2.32-RedHat.sh I am having some problems installing it, and havent used linux much and at that it has even been a long time since doing so. So how do I install the .sh file? JD |

Have a look at these or you could just Google it.
http://librenix.com/?inode=5599 http://linuxmafia.com/~rick/faq/index.php?page=virus http://wiki.arslinux.com/Antivirus_in_Linux I don't think you don't need it unless you are running some kind of server and yes you will probably want to run the .sh file. |

The only reason for an antivirus on a Unix or Unix-like system is when it's serving mail to Windows users. All you need for security is not to use root when you don't have to and mabye a firewall (which Fedora comes with).

I wouldn't run any anti-virus on linux, let alone norton. I hear AVG's linux version is pretty good, though

I'd rather have a virus on my computer than have Norton. It takes too many resources so it somewhat defeats the purpose of having an antivirus. I remember this other antivirus I tried that wouldn't let me download anything (including web surfing), pisses me off when they take more control than you do. AVG is probably your best choice as Lich mentioned.

AVG is the cat's ass. We use the professional version here at work, it finds way more viruses than norton or syantec products.
A .sh file is a script. to run it, open a command line, then type: sh filename.sh or if the file permissions are set to executable, simply do: ./filename.sh
