Eh, it's in the past now. I'll see if I can find a good resource that will be able to help you with your question with java and c# since I dont know java enough in my opinion to give you a valid answer.

Perhaps it would be in order to remind a few that flame wars over languages and OSes are specifically precluded by the forum's rules. This includes content and signatures. Promotion is one thing, detraction is another. Arevos makes the valid point that choice of language is often dictated by the circumstances of the job. I realize that this rarely occurs to those who are not yet programming for a job.

I believe J++ was Microsoft's original response to Java, but it failed pretty badly (I've never seen anyone using it, nor have I seen code for it). J# was just an extension of J++ (AFAIK). C# is similar to Java, as mentioned, but it also has things done very differently. C# (especially C# 2.0) also has - IMHO - a lot more syntactic sugar than Java, and has better design for rapid GUI development (at least with the .NET infrastructure). For a good comparision, google around and I'm sure you'll find some reliable and in-depth comparisons. |

yeah. I like how you can create the GUI very fast! If C# is like Java, then why not go for it as people said it will be easier to learn when the languages are similar.

duh.................
of course it's a "rip-off" as you say. if the syntax weren't based on the current preeminent technologies people would be hesitant to use it. c++ is a "rip-off" of c. not because bjarne stoustrup was a lazy sack of shit, but because he was trying to better the current language. do you think cars made in 2006 are a "rip-off" because they have round wheels and a radio? you sound like a fucktard to me. prove me wrong.

More specifically, Linux was started as an open source version of Minix, a microkernel Unix-like OS primarily designed for teaching people about operating system design, designed by the rather well known Dr. Andrew Tanenbaum.
For those interested, here a extensive unix family tree, and a similar one exists for a selection of popular computer languages. Also worth reading is Linus' usenet announcement of a pet project that became quite popular later on. |
