What is frontpage?
I recently installed VS 2005 Standard edition and stumbled upon some stuff apparently related to frontpage. Does it come with VS?

It comes with Office. Actually I think some versions of Office don't have it.
Anyhow, its similar to Word, except the output is HTML, used for designing websites. http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/FX010858021033.aspx |

front page sucks, do not use it. Ever. You don't need it, and you never will.

Office doesn't come with FrontPage since version 2003. I agree... it sucks. I made a website with it once. Text boxes are made into pictures... only Internet Explorer can view them perfectly. On FireFox the textboxes are blurry, and you can't highlight text.
And don't even think you can edit code after using the visual designer. It's like an insanely complex programming language! |

The thing I found funny was when I brought up Firefox compatibility, the web guy just said, "Why? Everyone uses IE anyways, and it's just easier for me that way." Of course, Firefox was at version 0.7 or lower at the time, but even so, I beleive in standards compliance (altho Firefox people have no intention of getting it past the Acid 2 test...shame on them). Funny thing was, the web guy was very technical and should have known better based on his background and experience. |

Plus if you have frontpage installed on your server and have some extensions running permantantly they can be open to exploits, probably best to stick with good ol' html

Wall also warned against false lazyness; taking shortcuts that might save you time in the immediate future, but which would require a lot more work in the long run. elford's former employer seems to practise this type of lazyness. Whilst using Frontpage might have saved him a little time in the short term, not sticking to standards just invites trouble in the long term. A truly lazy person thinks ahead. |

Frontpage is a WYSIWYG (What you see is what you get). The problem is that it does not like to be compatible with any browser other than IE. It is creates a LOT of "Waste Code". Use Macromedia Dreamweaver instead, it's loads better.
