I just got a 250 gb maxtor hdd (ide), so I hooked it up, moved files over, and when i went to use the files (mp3s, mpgs, avis, etc.) the audio / video is slow motion ... as if something were eating the cpu usage.

I opened the task manager, checked the processes, scanned for spyware / adware / viruses, nothing came up. I reboot the system, same thing every time a file is in use.

Could this be a power supply issue, maybe not having enough? Or did I do something wrong making the partition?

The partition was created using PartitionMagic, it simply said 239 gb was unallocated, so I made it the partition (f drive, ntfs, logical partition)

Current system has 768 mb of ram, 2.4 celeron cpu, primary hard drive is 80 gb western digital if that makes a difference. 250w power supply.

I'd just say that before doing anything else, check your audio/video player. May be the player is set to play the audio/vedio at a slow speed. I'm saying this because if the speed of hard disk is slow then the playback will be jerky instead of slow motion.
If you want to check the speed of your hard drive, just try to copy some big file from your 1st hdd to new hdd and measure the time and compare it with the time taken to move the file across the same hdd. HTH

I have tried numerous media players, winamp, windows media player, media player classic, and vlc. All have the same issues.

I just copied an 800 mb file from C: (80 gb) to F: (250 gb) and it took 5 minutes, and the same from F: to C: ... although I did notice that when copying from F: to C: it was much smoother. By smoother I mean the little copying window, with the file going from one folder to the other and the progess bar, the 'file' icon would frequently stop, then pick up pace again. From F: to C: it was smooth, no stopping.

To clarify, copying from the new hard drive ( F ) to the old drive ( C ) was smoother.
