Java IDEs and other newbiness
Hi there...I'm new here so hello world....sorry :o :banana:
Does anyone know of a good compiler and IDE for beginning with Java programming? I have some Java experience but it goes back quite a few years when I was using a Borland compiler and IDE. I'll be re-learning stuff and just want a good easy to use IDE which is powerful enough without being too intimidating. The stuff I'll be coding will be mobile Java applications, using the J2ME runtime environment, MIDP and CLDC APIs. A couple of questions... Is it possible to get emulators of certain phones to test how the application works? And... What are good books on Java programming for mobile devices? Thanking you!  |

Hello my friend welcome, i am using IntelliJ and before i was using JBuilder. As you are mentioning that you will be coding Java mobile applications, in my opinion it is better that you learn JBuilder.
As for the emulators, you can find some nokia or sony-erricson kits that you can test your j2me applications, or wml, jsp etc I can give you a link to some good free e-books if you are interesting also.Feel free to contact with me, good luck |

I prefer jBuilder, and Sun's Java compiler. For mobile applications, I use jBuilder and Sun's J2ME kit.

Xmmm don't know about Jcreator, but latest version of JBuilder was not so complex. Imafine that it was the first time i started developping in Java and it was quite good. Except the resources you can find in the net, the JBuilder's tutorial was quite helpful for me as a begginer.
Here you can find a lot of free e-books, and in O'Reilly section about Java,JBuilder,j2ME and a lot for other programming languages Free E-books Quote:
