Why MHz isn't a good measurement of speed when comparing Intel and AMD

Interesting! Thanks for the link.
Some of the commentors argued that the article is unneccessary because most of the computing community that would even be interested in an article like that would already know this, but I did not. I know little knowledge about computer architecture. I prefer AMD. I have a AMD64 3000+ and enjoy it very much.

People would do well to remember that correlations are not equivalencies. They are useful in making comparisons, but not definitive. Horsepower is not top-end rpm, or even torque.

There's nothing that everybody knows. You've seen jillions of instances on various forums and in other milieu where people act on statements by high-priestly gurus without ever rubbing two brain-cells together in consideration.

true, but this is the same "megahertz myth" stuff that apple has been proclaiming for years, but until AMD breaks new ground do people finally pay attention to the chip architectures and pipelines

That's why you need to apply your own mind to things spewed by "proclaimers". Professionals have been aware of architectural benefits (as opposed to speed) since 1970, at least. I can't speak for before that time. We benchmarked things and considered many architectural considerations beyond mere clock frequency.
