Couple of questions

Ok, just curious about two things...
First, how often is Assembly used?
and
Two, could anyone recommend a good book to start learning this language?
I have been looking, but the reviews differ and I am not sure exactly what would be good.

(You'll probably see these around since I am trying to expand my knowledge in different languages.)

It is not used very often, as it is a lot of work which can be done far more efficiently (in terms of writing code) in other languages than in assembly. I have seen some good books here: http://asm.sourceforge.net/resources.html#docs. It's nice knowing how things go 'under the hood', on the other hand, I'm not interested in it about cars, why should I do learn this for computers? If I didn't need it, I would not use it; but that's just my personal opinion.

2.) If you want to go NASM, I liked Jeff Duntemann's Assembly Language Step-by-Step.

I often recommend The Art of Assembly since I found it very helpful in learning assembly.
