in java your source file needs to be the same name (case-sensitive) as your class that you're compiling. you seem to be saving your file as helloworld when the class name is HelloWorldApp. i copied and pasted your code and saved it properly and it compiles and executes just fine. java is anal-retentive, java develops good habits. java is TOTALLY OOP. you can write procedural C++ but you cannot write procedural java (technically). so just keep all that in mind. all previous posts were just pissing in the wind to see what they landed on (except polyphemus, he gave you the answer in passing). as to dial-up...i'm stuck with it cuz i live in the boonies, so i go school and use their T1 connection to download stuff to my usb drive and take it home. amazing, $30 US will get you 256 MB these days at freakin' wal-mart. a must-have for us nerds.  oh, and winzip also
