update: I checked with others, and apparently my service provider, Bell Canada, does not allow web hosting (or something like that). Is this possible?

Yea I know, so im guessing "Jessehk" lives in canada, I checked out this website http://www.bellhosting.ca/en/terms.htm might be of some help, not sure though, but every ISP should give you a terms & conditions contract. I read mine a few weeks back and they really do try to ban alot of things luckily they mentioned nothing about setting up a web server at home

Sorry Jessehk I was still posting when you posted

Right so I figured most ISP will block incoming traffic to port 80 which is what the most common port is. Maybe you could forward a different port to the apache instead in the httpd one

does he have any hardware between the linux box and the isp (DSL Modem/Router perhaps?) If not, I would try what zorin mentioned. Change the httpd.conf so that apache listens on a different port (like 5000) and then check www.hissite.etc:5000. I can't imagine them blocking port 80 though, that would be pretty crappy. Some providers do however block email forwarding to protect the world agains spam.

Yes, I do. I have a router. (and something called home-plug, which connects me to the internet through the electrical wires in the house )
