Initial ideas > concepts > ideas from existing examples > possible designs > final gaem design> learning to use a graphics library such as OpenGL > learning how it coudl be used to hlep you > programming game (big part) > fix bugs > package > evaluation

A very rough plan for a project about making a game.

Great choice!

Linux rocks. Ubuntu is very windows-like, btu can be useful. Fedora has been f*cked with by Redhat.

I recommend Slackware. I wrote a tutorial of how to get from Window and an internet conenction to a computer wih fully working Widnows and Slackware Linux.

Its stickyed in teh lounge.

EDIT: Its just a matter of time until you see how hard compiler design is.

If you even don't know c or assembly how do you think to write such a complex thing like a compiler?
This thread is like those for making an OS....

Which is why I'm starting early...to see if I can even possibly do it!

Well good luck.

I promise you that you can't make it. Its better to think of somethign else so that you don't waste time on this idea.

I guess slack has some nice features heh.
I checked out the slackware website, couldn't find information on 64bit installation.

Research about OS and see the pros and cons of different programming langauges.
It's a good self-help. Google's the man.
