Example programs are a good method for getting to grips with coding. That's how I started out. In college we were given printed code to compile and run. Some had errors which we had to correct. I am not all that great at coding but I got by with some help from the members of these forums. Good luck to you.

print "+";
that semicolon is a c-construct and has no place in VB except as a string character. more experienced programmers put those there without thinking. is this really a newb? is this post real?

It's not a typo bl00dninja. Print outputs a newline after outputting the string. Putting semicolon makes the output of next print appear on the same line.

In qbasic or gwbasic certainly but not in vb, as print automatically moves to a new line (DrawText is the better alternative, closer to Write and WriteLn), and in vb is actually subroutine not a language statement. Even though it does work for compatibility reasons, it should be discouraged, just like goto - and some OO for pity's sake!

With Me
.Print "hello"
End With

you just have to consider when someone joins a forum and calls themselves "worried newbie", they probably don't intend on making more than a couple posts. i could have called myself "college dropout who doesn't know the difference between an int and a float" but i didn't. what's-his-ass...the assembly guy...sometimes makes fake accounts as a joke.

edit:

lostcauz, that's it.

hey welcome to programming brotha.....we actually didnt learn how to do those loops in vb.net until like 3/4th of the way through the school year....so what you're learning ISNT really beginner stuff....you just have to thoroughly understand loops and how they work..
