What does rel mean in the <link> tag?

Just wondering what the rel attribute of the <link> tag means.

it just tells the browser what type of <link> you have, ie:

<link rel="stylesheet" ... >

there are others beside stylesheet, but i forget what they are.

It specifies a relationship between the current document and the document in the link. It may, for instance, specify the index page, the next page, the previous page, an alternate page, or, of course, as you see, a stylesheet.

the word rel has specific values only. Few of them have been mentioned by DaWei.
e.g.

<link rel="next" href="page2.htm">

<link rel="stylesheet" href="styles/bdstyle.css" type="text/css">

<link rel="previous" href="page0.htm">

Specifying a relation of the document with the appropriate attribute in the link tag.
You will see this tag in many webpages.

Were you disagreeing with David's statement, or maybe calling it incomplete? It is hard to make heads or tails from your post. Your examples cover exactly what he said though.... extremely confusticating...

I second that:

Doesn't seem like English is his first language; it is common for people with a different mother language to leave out articles in their speech, such as "a". I believe Roshan meant to say "A few of them have been mentioned by DaWei." since it was a new sentence.

(This is all based on him being a non-native, which I'm basically only basing off of the name and the so-so grammar)

OOps!...

I am sorry if there's a grammatical error!

I am NOT Disagreeing with DaWei's statement. I have just added to what he has posted.

Yes, I meant "A few of them have been mentioned by DaWei."

And...I stated these examples because few of my friends were confused with the link tag and these served them as best examples for understanding the <link> tag.
