i am getting the idea that your intro to programming is Java (albeit with some BASIC experience). i had to include <string> and give "showrecord" a parameter in it's declaration before it would work. learning intro java and then moving to into C/C++ is easy as hell. it's learning advanced java and moving to the c's and then being like "what the fuck is a pointer?", that makes it hard. just stick with your school's schedule if you're non-traditional. if you're a traditional student and don't do anything other than go to class and smoke weed (like i did in "college, round 1" then spend your free time exploring and learning while somebody else pays for it.

it my (review) calculus class, these kids don't have a clue. they beg the instructor for extra time to complete a lab project because they have to study for 4 hours for chemistry or something. i have to work 40 hours a week. that's ten times the amount of time they have to study for...bitches. the point is, while you're growing up, you just don't realize how hard it is in "the real world". i'd love to be 17 again, just going to my 3 classes a day. 3 fucking hours of sitting in a chair? give me a goddamn break. and that's only three days a week. i'd have a 100% in my math class right now if maybe i opened the damn book, and took longer than 5 minutes to do the quizzes. but i'll just settle for the B+ or A, cuz i really don't care.

stupid rant against recent high-school graduates. whatever.

I just finnished my phonebook and it was a very good learning experience for me. I know C better now. I will try to learn some basics about socket programming.

I really don't have a clear idea what we could make. Do you guys have any ideas?

You could make a simple ftp client program, create a ftp server program after that, and build ssh into both after that. Just an idea.

Sounds like a great idea but currently I don't know anything about network programming. Maybe I should read some tutorials first.
