w00t use Gaim. Seriously,
+using one program i can use MSN, AIM, yahoo, googletalk and IRC in one Window! (How sexy is that?) +it is OSS +it isn't a microsoft product +it's free +it has plugins (and you can create your own) +it allows you to sign in with more than one account of a certain type. eg: i can use 3 AIM accounts if i like +it's multiplatform kthnxbye

There's another text-based one out there. Uses msnlib, a Python library (albeit a bit of a low-level one) for connecting to the MSN protocol.

I never really used any of those options (nudges, personal message, etc). So Gaim is perfect for me!

Gaim for *nix, and Trillian for Windows. Easy. I'd love to see a decent terminal-based app that worked on both, just because of the coolness factor.
