Exercise for the user: write an analog-to-digital converter that will sample the sound, then recreate the original file. It'd be interesting to see just how much data corruption there was.

Maybe we can implement a modem in software.

(and yeah, I already know winmodems sort of do that already, but...)

I didn't get a chance to try this while I was in class, but now that I'm home, I just did. Pretty cool, actually. It's almost haunting if you set the sample rate really low (like under 1kHz). I guess this sort of thing is the basis of white noise generators, but it could also be handy in a game, for example to do wind blowing or waves on the shore in realtime, with a data stream populated by rand().

It makes me wanna go spend some time on wotsit.org and learn more.

It's already been said. You need to feed a file which is called explorer.bak and it's in the C:\windows\ folder. You could also look at the code.

@lectic never heard of wotsit.org, lemme have a look.

Love it DaWei, some of the sounds could actually be quite useful for loops and stuff if anyone likes to do a bit of djing...
