Ok - so how do i start the proj??

The project i am going to start is an online business application for a business. B ut how do i start it?

What i mean is that i have carried out projects before in Java. However, for OOP there's reams of project tools such as GRAPPLE.

I want to be organised and have sections like;
  • Requirements Gathering
  • Analysis
  • Design
  • etc...sure you know the rest

I don't know where to look for a tool/process/standards for programming in php and mysql?

Are there any?

Thanks in advance

If you want organized sections I'd say.. get some paper, put it in a file.. get a pen and start analysing / designing etc.
When you've done that, get a code editor you like and start programming..

Erm...i rekon im gonna have to give that method a miss eventho thats the way i like to work. For uni im going to have at least show some organisational skills.

Hence, the need for a tool/standard etc as above

I'm not quite sure what this means. Could you explain further?

Yeah.

Basically its a website. It should allow the user to create customers, edit customers, create leads, track the progress of the leads. Maybe there will be some payroll included. Also, a login system has to be present. Different users will have different access, e.g.Manager can change product prices, sales staff can only enter new customer and create a lead.

Thats in nutshells. Full requirement analysis needs to be done.

I suggest you look at the course material. For the software engineering module I took whilst at University, we were walked through the sorts of steps the lecturers expected us to take. The best and most efficient way to complete your project may not be the method your lecturers want.

You might want to look at including some UML diagrams. My lecturers couldn't get enough of that

Make use of Excel or another spreadsheet program for Gantt Charts, project time lines.
Make use of Visio for flow charting... You could also use MS Project for some other tid bits. If you are using a linux box, look into the Open Office package to find a spreadsheet, word processor, flow charting type of feature. Document it from start to finish. Polyphemus' response was correct, in that I would suggest starting with pen and paper... brainstorm on ideas of what you want to implement, weigh pros and cons and such. Going straight to code on any complex project is imminent doom
