Hi there.

I am a student going into my final year. That means big project coming up.

Now, the project is going to be a online business application. Somewhere sales staff can enter customer details, check new products they can sell etc...

Which language would you recommend for something like this.

I have used php before so am leaning towards that?

Suggestions?

PHP for the website and MySQL for the database. I can't think of anything easier. You can take a shot at ASP.NET with Oracle but I don't recommend it because Oracle is hard to configure (listener, permission, ...) and ASP.NET require you to know C# or VB.NET.

I would also advise PHP, preferably with MySQL or PostgreSQL (because me loves open-source ).

I'd program it with Ruby on Rails and MySQL. That's the best web application framework I've come across so far.

I heard PHP doesn't support namespaces. I think that sucks. What do you do in this situation? k4pil, listen up.

I don't know much about it other than that it's extremely popular these days. You might look into Django as an alternative- it's billed as a sort of "Python on Rails."

Ruby on Rails is more complicated than PHP, but once understood, it's considerably faster. Rails has made a name for itself as a very efficient and swift way of putting together a web application. It also tends to produce very structured and consise code, which is another big advantage.

It rather depends on how confident you are wih programming. PHP is simpler to understand, but you'll end up writing more code to do the same thing.
