I kinda liked the movies. Sure, the books were better (and they had a hippie, which nets massive bonus points), but the movies were kinda how I envisioned the books. Sort of.

If you think about it B3TA SCR1PT3R sounds more like one of those bots that post lots of rubbish in different forums, while being coded to sound vaguely like they're on target by quoting stuff.

I'll be damned. You may just be right, at least for the majority of his drivel. I guess it just goes to show that I have met up with some truly brainless individuals in my life, to have believed this ridiculous bot was indeed an idiot.

I think The Silmarillion is Tolkien's best work as it uses mythic english language to describe even the most simple of things. Have you read the chapter entitled "Beren end Lúthien"? It is one of the best love stories I have ever read...all written in an excellent language! A true masterpiece!

I've read the parody. Now that's a masterpiece.

I'd have to agree with you there.

If the world had never been exposed to Tolkein's terrible genre of "fantasy", perhaps the pond life that frequent the internet soley to obsessively engage in a meaningless virtual battle in some obscure "elves and orcs" RPG would all go and get jobs. The obsession with the RPC is now so out of hand that some guy in Japan was recently arrested for mugging other people's online characters.

Therfore, people who like Tolkein and his work damage the solidarity of society, creating such evils as Warhammer and wierd Canadian "Elf Gatherings", and should be executed mercilessly, lest the downward spiral of "niche culture" lead to more things like the One Man Star Wars Trilogy. If I had enough money, I'd buy all copies of Tolkein's "literature" for a South Park-themed book burning.

Ahem. I really, really hate LOTR. Oh and I AM emotionally stable...

are you sure, especially about that emotional part?
I personally love the fantasy of Tolkien. He developed a complete world, with all kinds of creatures. What's wrong with that? You can't blame Tolkien for people who are going to use his creatures for freaky things.

I started the Silmarillion again last night. I think I'm in love with it.

You're perfectly correct. Tolkein is to blame for all derivitive works of fiction. Even those that were published after his death. Likewise, I think we can blame Turing for computer crashes, those fiends at DARPA for spam, and Berners-Lee for pop-under ads.
