Calm down Ooble... I picked up his slack and built 4 Linux machines for my home network last night. (Redhat Enterprise, Fedora Core 4, SuSe, and Ubuntu)

Good man. Entirely irrelevant, yet cool nonetheless. :p

What specifically are you having trouble with?
You have posted two 'are you done with my code yet' messages; not very helpful to those who are helping you.

What of the code I provided you? Did you have a problem with it?
What portions do you not understand?

If you don't want to learn threads, why not just have one client window open and one server window open? It's just two seperate programs for each IMer.

<Jim_McNeat> Is there like a way to put a compiler in "Just trust me on that one" mode?

I didn't continue with your code because I considered the help you were getting from subsequent posters to be superior to that which I might provide. I was also rewriting the stuff for winsock 2; not a serious issue, but I didn't want to mess with moving backwards. The differences between socket operations between *nix and Windows are real, but relatively insignificant. If you use threads, you have to adapt, also. If L7 popped some code on ME, I would be very seriously wading through it. If I had questions, I would post them with as much factual detail as I could scrape up.

2roll4life7...its not that i dont want to learn how to use threads, its that im having trouble sending and receiving messages between the client and server. i am trying to learn how to use 'select()'.
