This is a true story of the first Adventure game I had. It was on a Z-80 based Cromenco system with a port of Unix called Cromix that could also be booted into C/PM. Typically, you issue commands like, "Go north", or "Go up", or "Throw axe". If you type something not in the repertoire, it responds with, "I don't understand that." At a couple times of frustration, I might type, "Sh*t" or "Damn" and get the usual response. One time I typed "F*ck it" and it said, "Watch it!".

That's the thing about old games, the people that made them had a sense of humor. Now a gaming company would most likely get in trouble for doing something like that.

HA! That's great. I had to create a game like that for an undergrad AI class last year (although, it wasn't designed for a human to play).

I think some still keep the sense of humor. "serious" games like Metal Gear Solid had little but great jokes in them. Even dark action games like doom3 had the "super turbo monkey puncher 3". It was an arcade found on the lounge in the beggining of the game. The only thing you did was to punch a turkey (street fighter style) but if you played long enough (around 15 minutes) you'd receive a e-mail in your game PDA congratulating you on setting the new high-score for the base but since you played for too long 1 day of vacation had been deducted from you.
