I would suggest that the El Cheapo Intel probably doesn't include everything shown in the picture -- I'd check that out for sure. If it's just the box, I'd give it a pass. As for the other one, many "homebrew" type machines build for gaming and fancy lighted cases have been overclocked by someone that doesn't know what they're doing. I'd be skeptical and resolve a BUNCH of questions with the seller before I bit on either one.

The el cheapo is just the tower... but I have a keyboard, mouse, monitor and all that.
The more expensive one just doesn't come with a monitor or OS, I already have both though. I was thinking about going with the el cheapo one at first. It's faster to get $200 than it is to get $800. Besides asking if it's overclocked(which I think is a stupid thing to do) got any other questions that I should ask him? I'm thinking that there is an obvious thing I should be asking... thanks |

I'm just a skeptic, Komodo. I know that e-machines isn't the best computer around, but Best Buy had one today, AMD 3300, 512 MB memory, 80 gig drive, 17-in flat screen monitor, and printer, $330 after rebates. It never ceases to boggle my mind that I started out paying 5K per system and upgraded every year from PC's Limited (now Dell). Those were 12 Mhz, 16 Mhz, 25 Mhz, like that, every time I upgraded. I used to design motherboards back in the 33 Mhz days, and I know that Michael Dell had one of the best MBs around. He and his guys knew that a few lousy millimeters in trace length can affect the hell out of performance with FSBs where they are now.
Shoot, you can get a Gateway with the Intel dual-core (I'd wait for AMD's dual core personally) for something like $1200. All the old machines in this very small town cycle through my house to get the malware removed, and I just look at the thangs and shake my head. I wouldn't give a plugged nickel for any of 'em, used.

I have an E-machines that runs fine. It's on fire but it works. It idles at 65c.
I wouldn't trust the person selling the 2nd one because they say P4 in the title but go on to say it's a celeron. And if you want to use your computer for anything stressful Celeron sucks. So I would have to go with the first one.

Well the more expensive one is the better system spec wise. The problem with that cheap one is that it is a barebones system from what i read. so that means no HD, no CD-rom. and other stuff like that. so i would see what else it doesnt have before even thinking about buying it
![]() becareful and watch for the words barebones. cause normally all that means is you get a case, Mobo, CPU, and Ram and thats it normally. ![]()
