In need of a carrier advise

(Didn't know where else to put this, so I'm writing it here)

I had planned to deal with computer graphics as part of my career, but "graphics" always meant art schools, which were beyond my reach, so both in trade school, and college, I attended IT courses, with computer graphics where it was possible.

I've been searching for a long time, but EVERYBODY sees me as an IT technician. Those graphical job positions go to people who graduated art schools. I made the decision that if I'm to get a career, I have to use my papers (which are considered pure IT) to land some proper job. HOWEVER, I had over a year of break since graduation. A ton of stuff left my brain. I tried to refresh some stuff, but there are so many coding languages, and... I don't even know what kind of job I should looking for !

I really do not know where to start...

Just for info. It seems like the things I know the best are: C/C++ and Javascript.

Thank you very much for any help!
