Let me put it to you this way: BigK has a relatively new forum which had not yet gained validity as a place for professional programmers to hang out. A lot of top-notch guys came over from Devshed. I don't count myself, I'm just a semi-retired engineering manager with a fair amount of programming experience. Nevertheless, a forum that banned me got over 100 posts in one day asking that I be brought back, before the thread was locked.
When we looked here, the atmosphere was pretty much that of a kiddie sandbox. You may not like to hear that, but it's the truth. Most of the experts shortly moved on to places where they can contribute more, though a couple, Dragon and Grumpy, continue to contribute when and where they can. I like to joke around, too. You can see that if you can read and you read my posts. My main goal, though, is to contribute to the profession that was so good to me. I contribute code sometimes and other times just advice concerning how to be an effective programmer. Despite what you may think, I know all about what it takes for the latter. Jokes can fit in any thread, but off-topic offshoots should not overwhelm it if the solution for the OP has not yet been presented. Supplying misinformation belongs nowhere. We all make mistakes; I've made my share and apologized to the OP when my error was pointed out by others. "Serious" trolling and post-count pursuit belongs mainly in the lounge. Even a lounge can get so useless as to make the real contributors to a forum throw up their hands and look elsewhere. If some of you are satisfied with the nature of the forum you were building, then I can only say, have at it. Play away. Serious members who might draw significant sponsorship will peep in and ultimately move along.

I kind of like the looks of CodeGuru. The content seems a bit more challenging and less vulgar (not that much is required to "challenge" me... I am just barely out of the ' "C++ for Dummies" Poster Child' stage. ).

DaWei, ignore Uman - he just wants to be loved.
![]() Seriously guys, stop with the ranting. The guy just wants to know how to stop his parents from knowing he's a pornaholic - can't we help him out a little? |
