Python Question

Using Visual Basic 6 I was (and still possibly am) planning to create my first major program ... a football simuation game.

At first, I'm planning on having a decent structure in place with the basics of the game covered. Once that is complete, I will venture in and add in more complex features, such as a 2D match engine, player training, managers can transfer clubs, managers have ratings to determine which clubs would want them and such features.

However, I was told that VB6 is not the way to go and that soon it will crash, burn, and be forgotten in the programming world. For that reason I was thinking of converting and learning either C++ or Python instead. If I learned Python and I got to grips with everything discussed in the book on this link... http://www.ibiblio.org/obp/thinkCSpy/, would I be able to program the game with the features I describes in the previous paragraph. If not, how much more would I need to learn?

Thanks.

It doesn't work like that. It's not like "read a book then you can do x y and z". You need to take time learning the language and it's finer points, making a tonne of small things along the way. When you think you're comfortable then go for it. We don't know how quickly you learn, your past programming experience, how you think.. Neither are we wizards with telepathic abilities (well, I speak for myself at least o_0).

Smile

There are a whole bunch of Pythonians that do game development. Visit:
