This URL has some good insight on transitioning from C++ to PHP, though it is a very breif overview it does explain some of the benefits to having a bit of C++ experience when transitioning to PHP, or at least learning C++ along the way.

I am hitting C++ from PHP/Java experiance so i think i am a bit better off
