w00t ya!
I just cracked my first program! I had a legal right to use the program (my dad's friend's company made it and I'm doing some odd jobs for him including beta testing it) but the key they sent me didn't work. I learned a bit about MSIL (the program is written in some .net language), found the aptly-named function "checkforvalidkey" and changed it to return true. I feel so special!

What program was it, may I ask? I'm just vaguely interested.
I don't know if it's a great achievement to crack an MSIL program. It's an intermediary language, right? Like Java bytecode. So is it as decompilable? Meh, well done on doing it anyway.

Nutty: If you use the ILDASM tool included with the SDK, you will see that MSIL retains much, much more information about the original code than native intstructions.

Yeah MSIL is in comparison easy to do this with, but nonetheless congrats

Doesn't the compiler rename the functions when you compile in release mode?

nope. Ya I know it's not some uber accomplishment but I think its funny that they think they have this super-impervious copy protection that's super easy to crack.
