Connecting a Java Applet upto AIM via TOC

Heya everyone, i'm posting here about this because if what i'm wanting to do isn't possible via Java, i'll just cut my losses with Java and move onto learning C++.

Is it possible to connect a Java program/applet upto AIM via the TOC protocol (link & link)?

Thanks in advance.

Yes, it's possible. Why would you want to use TOC and not OSCAR, though? Both are possible through Java.

Isn't OSCAR closed source, where-as TOC is open?

there is documentation for OSCAR online, but it's sort of incomplete. Or you could just read Gaim source code all day.

well, the client only needs chat, no bells and whistles, so unless theres something horrific about TOC, I'll leave reading Gaim source-code all day to someone else.
