Exclamation File-Type Association and Processing

I have created a new file type to associate with the program I am making and I would like to make it so that when you open that file it will open my program, which is file-type association, and I'm not sure how. I would also like to be able to open the file when m program is opened, is this possible or will I have to recode it AGAIN?
