Want to upload, show as HTML and other things....
Hi All, great site.
Right then, maybe someone can help me with a bit of programming for my webpage(s). You see one of my hobbies is that I write poems, and I like to show of these poems, as it stands I have over 200 poems at the moment, and it is growing daily. Now then, As I said I want to show off these poems, the problem is that the sheer amount of time it takes to convert MSword *.Doc files into HTML files ready for viewing takes forever (as youy would expect with a large number of documents). Then adding on new poems (as I do on a regular basis), editing the HTML tags to create a new link for that poem and everything else is also very time consuming. So what I am looking for is a program that I can place into my HTML (or call from my index page) that can do the following. 1. Read either *.txt or *.doc files 2. Convert them to readable HTML on the fly. 3. Create links to the poems in my CSS menu system 4. Upload new *.txt for *.doc files and have them perform the above actions. 5. Randomly pick a poem for viewing when the index page loads (selected poems will then replace the random poem in a table/window.) 6. Possibly allow other people to upload thier poems, in thier own directories for viewing on a differant page. Now I don't care if it is written in CGI/Perl, PHP or Javascript, but can someone please help me out with this? I know there are programs out there that can do this, but they cost something like $180, which for a single person, non corporate, non profit making webpage is way over the top. All help will be apprechaited, as will any comments on the design of my new webpage as it stands. The link for it is: http://www.ashesofangels.co.uk/Test/index.php P.s. Apologies for my spelling, I was never very good at English........ ![]() |

It was my understanding that in Word you could save the document as HTML. As for easy posting, you could try a CMS (Content management system) such as XOOPS or Mambo. After initial setup, and perhaps installation of an Articles add-on, you can easily upload documents with all the linking handled for you.

Perhaps you should consider writing your poems in something else then.
