What software does a bank need?

Would anyone be able to tell me what sort of software is developed in an IT department for a bank? I have a job interview and just having difficulty tracking down exactly what kind of applications are developed. My guess would be mostly maintenance and database systems. A quick reply would be much appreciated i'm a bit pressed for time since its...tomorrow

Well, I am not sure of what exactly would it be....

But one thing is sure that it is necessary for the software to handle the database very nicely. It is a transactional Database and needs to be highly stable.

Finnacle, is one of the software that was developed by Infosys, for banks..I guess....
If u find about it more....may be you would get a better idea

basically the back-end database i would think is the key for a bank, and the front end simple for all those bank clerks to use, more then likly its all bespoke software in banks.

Unhappy In House coding

From what I have heard and seen. Most banks use in house software developed in older languages such as COBALT <=== not 100% sure on that though . I heard a rumor that Wells Fargo is going to be migrating their ATMs to a Windows XP-based platform which I think is very unwise considering banks are already a target it is a hacking goldmine....

I assume you mean COBOL . And here's some advice for Wells Fargo users - switch, now. :p

Aah thank you for the correction. I knew I was spelling it wrong, but I am pretty sure I am referencing the right language. I got rid of Wells Fargo a long time ago. They like to overdraft you to death.

That decision has upper management written all over it. They probably wanted to be able to play solitaire while checking their account balance.
