OK, I've been trying to install Apache, MySQL and PHP and for some reason it's simply not working. I bought a book on PHP and followed all of the instructions to a T on installing these three components. When I tried to run the test .php file, it simply displayed the code rather than generate PHP info. Annoyed with the book, I decided to search for some online tutorials. I found a rather detailed one here:

http://www.php-mysql-tutorial.com/in...3b4f215a961999

I uninstalled everything and reinstalled it all exactly how this website describes. Again, when I run the .php file I made, it simply displays code. Any idea why my computer doesn't seem to be displaying the PHP properly? Pretty damn frustrating really.

Thanks in advance!

I'm guessing you didn't edit httpd.conf. Am I right, or am I right?

pearl?? i assume you mean perl, and i honestly feel that its simple enough to just use php, perl may give more freedom but really you don't need it, the error messages and less than helpful and it requires more support to be hosted on the net.

Also, with sites like MySpace, how is the whole messaging other users/users having their own inbox etc. achieved? It baffles me, and it's overwhelming, but I'm sure some of you guys look at it and know exactly what's going on. Care to shed a little light on it for me?
i'm going to producing a private messaging system myself, i understand the syntax of what i need to do i just need to know the commands and get it defined and working.

the way i'm planning to do it is to store the message, username of the sender, and of the reciever and the subject and the time that it was sent in a database with a unique id, also then it will add to the recieving user's list of recieved messages and they will be able to go and view the new message. and erm no i have no idea how long it will take me to get it working, yes i can't type at all well and yes i know i didn't explain very well and more or less just spammed but been awake for 16 hours.

if ur gonna learn anything other than html, you should probly know alot of css/xhtml/xml. in my mind, those three and html fall into the category of html. if ur gonna go to php, i recomend wamp (google it). its a program that includes the php, apache, and mysql software in one download. its very nice. there are my good websites for learning php, although the hard part about php is the database(mysql) stuff. the actual php stuff is easy to grasp IMO.
