Yes, I tried to do that.. and even in project management terms ( a language which he should understand). What then? I even considered the possibility of saving the company losses by mentioning my concerns to an individual an eschelon higher.... (if there is an open door policy of course)

And how would you convince an individual "an echelon higher" that the issue you are raising is significant and worthy of his/her attention? For all s/he knows, you may just have a personal gripe with the project manager.

so now it's ok to use colorful language, right?

so basically what you are saying is that my project manager does not perceive a problem, and that I possess no communication or diplomacy skills. In that case I suppose i am pretty well screwed...

... probably why I am missing your point...

What I'm saying is that you need to put together a VERY robust argument in this circumstance --- whoever you decide to make a case to. Do it a few times, for real, and you learn how to put together a logical and objective argument that (even with imperfections) stands on its merits. The next step is then presenting it ..... which is where communication and diplomacy skills come in. Communication and diplomacy skills can patch holes in a weak argument (all too often, unfortunately), but a solid argument is much easier to get across.

I would probably just fix the mistake and then tell him that there was one but that I fixed it for him . Probably not the best way...

That approach is fine if there is actually a technical solution to the problem. If it is actually technically impossible, you have to muster arguments....
