Sorry that was me being stupid, i forgot to change the input string back to "123" and I thought it had worked :/

Your right you cant pass goodbit into setstate(), instead change the line to:

s.clear( stringstream::goodbit );

this will clear the state to goodbit, and I promise this time it woks
